MuchMusic Documentary to Screen in Halifax
WRITTEN BY: MITCHELL JODREY // THE BOOM AT NOON
Following its successful debut at SXSW 2023 in Austin and a sold-out premiere in Toronto, the documentary feature "299 Queen Street West" is coming to Halifax on October 25.
This two-hour documentary provides an inside look into the history of the MuchMusic brand. It explores the origins of the channel, which started as a small Canadian television underdog. The film is narrated by the original VJs, who had no prior TV hosting experience, no scripts, and delivered live broadcasts across Canada. "299 Queen Street West" offers a fascinating glimpse into MuchMusic's early days and how it became a significant part of Candian pop culture. The documentary also highlights the channel's rise in popularity alongside the emergence of rap music, the birth of grunge and alternative rock, and the moments when pop stars created hysteria outside the iconic street-level studio.
After each screening, the audience will have the chance to participate in a discussion with the MuchMusic VJs and the director, Sean Menard, providing a unique and interactive experience.
The Halifax event will feature appearances by Rick "The Temp" Campanelli, Erica Ehm, and Mike Campbell, former host of MuchEast.
"299 Queen Street West" screens at the Rebecca Cohn on October 25th.
